Rules: The car/truck had to be sold brand new in 1982.
This was a hard year for me to pick anything I liked that wasn’t a supercar. So I needed up picking one of the quintessential 80s supercars. The Porsche 911 Turbo. 261hp 3.3L flat six engine that can kill you. So cool I just had to pick it.
What would you buy?

Just need a mullet to go with it.

1982 Chevette Diesel with a 4spd stick
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:27 |

First year!
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:27 |
|
Why...
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:28 |
|
Indeed. I have always liked these despite the fact that they were kinda slow and such. The design is just quintessentially ‘80s.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:29 |

The last C3. It looks great to me and even with only 225 hp, the Crossfire 350 was a sign of things to come.

Lancia 037 Stradale

1982 Mercedes SEC.
1982 Alpine 310?
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:32 |

Economical transportation.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:32 |
|
Only downside was the 82 was an auto only model
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:32 |
|
Oh lord that is a special special car
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:33 |
|
Not a bubble-back until the next year, so not as obviously the correct choice, but still solid. The ‘82 T-bird was kind of cool, too:
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:33 |
|
Alpine is awesome! And that was the first year of the SEC right? I always liked those
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:34 |
|
Oh I forgot about the Capri! And I always kinda liked this generation T as well
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:36 |

930 Turbo is a fantastic choice but.....
How bad could it be to DD a Countach.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:37 |
|
924 Turbo.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:38 |

82 was a shit year. I'd probably go with an Aston V8 in my hypothetical money means nothing world. In the real world I'd probably have gotten a Tercel with the lift glass...always liked those.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:39 |

Turbo Esprit
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:39 |
|
Yes it is. It’s also now a very expensive car.

FJ60

Alpina B7.
Countach, 512BB and Alpine 312 are also solid choices.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:46 |
|
Why couldn’t you have made it 1981??
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:48 |
|
1979, I think.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:48 |
|
Bad. Very very bad.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:48 |

Those are absolutely beautiful trucks.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:49 |
|
I really like these
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:49 |
|
Good pick. I thought about getting one of these too
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:50 |
|
Never really a big Toyota fan but I would love one of these
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:50 |
|
Probably mainly driving forward and hanging out the door backing up bad. So that doesn’t look like it would be too bad.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:51 |
|
Oh good pick! I forgot about the Quattro
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:51 |
|
Something big and truck-y.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:52 |
|
That Alpine looks amazing!
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:52 |
|
Patience... That will happen soon enough
![]() 04/13/2016 at 10:53 |
|
Good pick. I would take a Cherokee Grand Wagoner
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:00 |
|
All the parking lots nearby are really big. Not a problem.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:00 |
|
Awesome. I want to try.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:01 |

High Output V8 cranking out 302 HP. Oh wait....that’s 302 Cubic Inches. Horsepower was only 157, but a big improvement over the ‘Stang II.
04/13/2016 at 11:04 |
|
Some other interesting choices would include Dodge Mirada CMX and Mexican VAM Rally AMX.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:04 |
|
1982 500SE AMG mmmmmmmmmm so pretty
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:06 |
|
Because at the time, I wouldn’t have noticed that the facelift turned a gorgeous design into a merely nice design
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:07 |
|
Well besides that Porsche you got there, all these too...
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:15 |
|
Sooner or later you would come up with a year where I could post this.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:15 |

I sold my 85 last year at 315k miles. But the years of northeast living just took too much of a toll on the frame and body. But ran like a hero. A leaky, oily, stinky hero
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:19 |

1982 Mustang GT.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:22 |

Oooh, good answer.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 11:23 |

There’s one for sale about an hour away from me, but...well, see for yourself.

DeTomaso Pantera GT5

Probably in black, though.
A 1950s car built in the ‘80s, what’s not to like?
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:09 |
|
Obvious choice is obvious.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:25 |
|
A massive improvement for sure!
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:25 |
|
Never heard of either both seem interesting
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:26 |
|
Still pretty nice really
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:27 |
|
Alfa GTV6 for sure
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:28 |
|
Of course! How could I forget about the Scrambler. Great pick
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:28 |
|
They had a Boss in 82?
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:29 |
|
Not sure if it is worth it... I think these will go up in value but that one is pretty far gone
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:29 |
|
Can't go wrong with that
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:30 |

Nice choice
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:30 |
|
It has some style
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:31 |

Overrated
04/13/2016 at 12:40 |

The Mirada CMX was Dodge’s take on ‘’performance’’ personal luxury car while the Rally AMX was basically Mexican built AMC Spirit AMX which wasn’t built in the US after 1980.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 12:43 |
|
I have sat in a Dodge Mirada before. For some reason I think it’s a cool car, albeit a terrible one.

![]() 04/13/2016 at 13:25 |

Agreed, I could get a minty one for what it would cost that one to get up to halfway decent shape.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 14:02 |

An Alfa Romeo gtv6.
![]() 04/13/2016 at 20:04 |

Personally, I like to chose cars introduced in the year chosen. So...
1982 Mitsubishi Starion
Nut if I was to actually spend my own money in 1982 or buy a car from that year, then..
1982 Porsche 911 Turbo
![]() 04/15/2016 at 13:47 |
|
This is on point. Also, a Countach because of the low production numbers.
![]() 04/20/2016 at 11:49 |

uh-oh I missed last week
1982 Mercury Capri in Black Magic edition:
I think WITH T-Tops is the right call here.
![]() 04/20/2016 at 11:54 |
|
A Mercury Capri?! How did I know!
![]() 04/20/2016 at 11:56 |
|
I was going to branch out but black magic was out for 82. Had to go with it.
![]() 04/20/2016 at 11:59 |

black magic was cooler than white lightning
